About exhibition

Marie Antoinette: from celebration to tragedy, Bratislava castle, from 28 April 2025 to 28 February 2026

Iconic victim of fashion and power

The exhibition Marie-Antoinette: from celebration to tragedy presents an extraordinary insight into the life of one of the most iconic women in European history – Marie Antoinette. For the first time in the history of exhibition cooperation with the Chateau de Versailles, an exhibition that combines history, fashion, art and tragedy in the unique space of the Bratislava Castle is coming to Slovakia.

At the age of less than fifteen, Marie Antoinette left her native Vienna to become Queen of France. Surrounded by strict court etiquette, she defied the rules by becoming a pioneer of new styles and a fashion icon long before the term fashion victim was coined. But her story is also a cautionary tale – from fame and pageantry to a tragic end under the guillotine.
